Andy Cross Personal Trainer - Cross PT
I am a fully qualified Personal Trainer, Cycling Coach & Metabolic Nutrition Consultant. I believe in training your metabolism. Type 1 Diabetes & Heart Condition
Training with Type 1 Diabetes
Andy became Type 1 Diabetic at the age of 10. Training with Type 1 Diabetes was difficult to begin with, however over the years Andy identified what happens to the blood sugar levels whilst training under different stresses for example aerobically, Anaerobic, weights etc. All have a different outcome on blood sugar levels. Andy has used this as a benefit to him as being qualified as a Metabolic Nutrition Consultant he has learnt all about the hormones in the body and how they work with fat loss and muscle gain.
Andy now trains other people with Diabetes and those without where they have had great results with fat loss and blood sugar control. Some of Andy's clients who have type 2 diabetes have managed to reduce medication and even come off medication with assistance from their medical professionals.
As well as being Type 1 Diabetic Andy was diagnosed with a heart condition. This started in 2016 when he felt unwell for a couple of weeks. Andy was racing at this time and was a few points from gaining his Cat 2 race license. After taking himself to the hospital with chest pain and palpitations he was admitted into the hospital for 7 days. The hospital performed tests as it was feared that he had had a heart attack or was at a high risk of sudden death. Andy was referred to St Georges hospital in London where he was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (genetic heart disease) and arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy (risk of Cardiac Arrest).
Andy was told he would never cycle competitively again, but with the guidance of St George's cardiology team, Andy gained his 2nd Cat race license in 2017 and gained a World Record in 2018.
